Say, are you in the mood for dancing? Shaking your body until you can no longer stand and fall in a heap on the floor, exhausted, but entirely pleased with yourself?
Well, I suppose the answer doesn’t matter much, because after you hear Van Hechter’s brand new single, you’ll be dancing regardless of mood. It’s just that powerful. But don’t let it fool you. It comes on simple enough. You know, a looping beat, a rhythmic chorus that he sings again and again and again. And you think ‘I’m not gonna get sucked into this’.
But you do.
You end up dancing regardless of your location. At the very least, you’ll be tapping your foot and shaking your head. At the very least.
“The Delight”, this little gem we’ve been talking about features an exciting new collab with New York artist and activist Chauncey Dandridge. The two worked together on a New Year’s Eve party, at the end of 2019, doing a duet of “53 Christopher Street”, a sweet homage to the Stonewall Inn at the Stonewall Inn. Cool, huh?
Anyway, back to our song, which is called, yeah, you heard it right, “The Delight”.
What is the delight? We don’t know. Maybe we weren’t paying too much attention because we were so busy dancing. Maybe it’s whatever we want it to be.
However, one thing is certain – it will get you up and “dancing in the moonlight”, as the song itself invites you to do. I don’t know about you, but it’s been a while since I danced in the moonlight, and if there’s anything that’s gonna get me to do it, it’s this song.
The DJ-ing on Dandridge’s part follows an obsessive pattern, and with it, he will lead you astray, a bit like the Pied Piper. Yeah, this song is basically The Pied Piper meets that unique ‘80s disco sound. And it is glorious.
Not convinced? We’re sorry. We’re not Van Hechter. Maybe it’s the charm we’re missing. Maybe it’s the strangely warm yet distant voice. Whatever it is, please don’t let it put you off listening to “The Delight” because this song is here to stay, and you’ll be kicking yourself in the shin for missing it.
Or… you know, listening to it a bit later than the others.
Who is Van Hechter? Good question. If this is your first time hearing about it, shame on you. No, we’re kidding. It’s good you’re here. Better late than never, we always say.
Van Hechter is a French-Georgian artist living in Montreal. After studying literature, drama and opera in college, he decided to dedicate his years to the one thing that makes him happy like nothing else, singing, and has been doing it ever since.
His songs are witty and at times political, but always infused with a clear sharpness of character, as well as an evident love for music.
